Job Summary:
The Manager, Health System Specialty is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic direction of the specialty pharmacy services within the health system. This role ensures high-quality, safe and compliant medication management for patients requiring complex therapies, while optimizing financial performance and operational efficiency. The manager leads a team, collaborates with clinical and administrative stakeholders, and drives initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, streamline workflows, and support regulatory compliance.

The targeted compensation for this range is $145K-$165K per year. New York Pharmacist License Required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. This document in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position):
1. Manage daily operations of the specialty pharmacy, ensuring efficient workflow, accurate dispensing, and compliance with regulatory standards.
2. Oversee inventory management, including procurement, storage, and distribution of specialty medications.
3. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
4. Coordinate training and professional development programs to maintain clinical and operational competencies.
5. Partner with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient care and medication therapy management.
6. Ensure appropriate clinical protocols and documentation are followed for specialty therapies.
7. May assist with the overall development and implementation of the Performance Improvement Plan.
8. Participates in pharmacy orientation and training programs, pharmacy staff meetings, in-service or educational programs and other committees such as Performance Improvement/Quality Management and/or other functions as required by the facility and pharmacy department.
9. Prepare for and participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
10. Monitor and manage pharmacy budgets, billing processes, and reimbursement strategies.
11. Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement through prescription capture rates and pull through.
12. Implement and monitor quality assurance program to ensure accreditation standards are met, patient safety and medication accuracy.
13. Investigate and resolve medication errors, adverse events, and patient complaints.
14. Leverage pharmacy information systems and data analytics to improve operational performance and patient outcomes.
15. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records and pharmacy systems.
16. Support patient education, adherence programs, and access to financial assistance for specialty medications.
17. Address patient concerns and coordinate care transitions as needed.
18. Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives aligned with health system goals.
19. Stay informed of industry trends, emerging therapies, and best practices in specialty pharmacy.
20. Promptly report any allegations of impropriety to the Compliance Department.
21. Comply with VytlOne’s Ethical Business Conduct policy and VytlOne’s Compliance Program.
22. Remain free from exclusion under the OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists.
23. Complete required training, as assigned, within the established timeframes.
24. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
25. Ensure staff is informed of product upgrades or enhancements in a timely manner.
26. Hire, train, and discipline staff.
27. On a biweekly basis, verify departmental timesheets for departmental employees ensuring the timesheets are accurate based on the work-schedule and necessary corrections are done prior to Payroll submission.
28. Conduct initial and annual performance evaluations.
29. Maintain regular attendance in accordance with established policies.
30. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
· Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required.
· Certified Specialty Pharmacist certification required within 18 months of hire.
· Active Pharmacist License in good standing is required in applicable states.
Experience:
· 5 years related work experience required in specialty pharmacy, and 1-3 years supervisory/management experience required
· Demonstrated comprehensive in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical care, pharmacy systems and designs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of specialty medications, including biologics, injectables and high-cost therapies.
· Knowledge of specialty pharmacy accreditation, payer systems, prior authorizations, specialty drug billing and patient financial assistance programs.
· Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR), pharmacy management software, and automated dispensing systems.
· Skill in accurate dispensing, drug interaction checks, and patient education.
· Skill in managing specialty drug inventory, cold chain logistics, and vendor relations.
· Skill in budgeting, cost control, and understanding pharmacy revenue cycles.
· Skill in using metrics to assess performance, compliance and patient outcomes.
· Ability to align pharmacy operations with broader health system goals.
· Ability to quickly resolve operational, clinical or staffing issues.
· Ability to stay current with evolving specialty drug therapies and regulations.
