Overview

Maxor National Pharmacy Services is seeking a certified pharmacy technician to work in the JPS Correctional Pharmacy at JPS Health Network. JPS Correctional pharmacy is one of the Maxor managed pharmacies int the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

 

JPS Health Network is a $950 million, tax-supported health care system for Tarrant County in North Texas. Licensed for 578 beds, the network includes an acute care hospital and more than 40 community-based clinics, including 19 school-based clinics. John Peter Smith Hospital is home to Tarrant County’s first and only Level 1 Trauma Center, its only psychiatric emergency services site and has the largest hospital-based family medicine residency program in the nation.

 

The schedule is as follows: M-F 10A-7P...Every 4th weekend Sat -Sun - 7A-7P (Must work every 4th weekend but off Tuesday-Thursday on that week.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:          PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - CPhT

DEPARTMENT:                  Correctional Facility Pharmacy

REPORTS TO:                    Pharmacy Manager; May also receive additional supervision from the Staff Pharmacists

FLSA STATUS:                   Non-Exempt

 

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Tech must have good working knowledge of general responsibilities of a pharmacy technician related to filling orders for unit doses, pre-packaging pharmaceuticals, and preparation of intravenous doses, DEA controlled substances, supplemental medications, emergency kits, and general stock requisitions.  Performs various related pharmacy duties including quality improvement activities and staff training. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.  This document in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position): 

  1. Assist pharmacists in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services.
  2. Provide friendly and cooperative patient service.
  3. Enter patient data accurately.
  4. Answer telephones quickly and with courtesy.
  5. Pull and count medication from shelves accurately according to label generated at time of dispensing for final check by Pharmacist.
  6. Participate in pharmacy orientation programs, training programs for Pharmacy Technicians, pharmacy staff meetings, in-service educational programs and other committees and functions as required by the facility and pharmacy department.
  7. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy.
  8. Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
  9. Assist in inventory control such as auditing receipt of goods, inventorying, stocking, pricing, monitoring usage, and correcting pricing and quantities in the computer.
  10. Remove, pick up, and/or deliver drug orders if necessary.
  11. Inform the pharmacist of any alerts form the pharmacy system, such as contraindications, interactions, and allergies.
  12. Verify NDC number to pull and count medications.
  13. Participate in activities resolving unsafe and unsanitary practices.
  14. Issue supplies to other pharmacies or departments as needed.
  15. Pre-pack and document medications accurately as needed.
  16. Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
  17. Work cooperatively with other staff members to enhance the team concept.
  18. Maintains regular attendance according to established policies.
  19. Must pass and maintain security clearances as required by client(s).
  20. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.   

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (With or without the aid of mechanical devices) 

  1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
  2. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  4. Must possess the sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  5. Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with other staff.
  6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  7. Must be able to operate office, business, and accounting machines. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  1. Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, reaching, stooping, and moving intermittently during working hours.
  2. May require standing for extended periods.
  3. Works in well lighted/ventilated office areas.
  4. Subject to frequent interruptions.
  5. May be exposed to potentially hazardous and toxic substances.
  6. Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  7. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
  8. Communicates with both external and internal patients.
  9. May be required to travel between pharmacies and correctional facilities.
 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:             

 

Education:   High school diploma or equivalent.  Must be nationally certified and registered as a pharmacy technician in the state of employment.

 

Experience:   A minimum of 3 years of experience in pharmacy operations.  Correctional facility experience is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of generally accepted pharmacy principles, practices and procedures, pharmaceutical generic and trade names, general mathematics, personal computers.
  2. Familiarity with personal computers and pharmacy operating systems to access patient/drug information systems
  3. Ability to operate various types of pharmacy equipment.
  4. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time while performing duties.
  5. Ability to lift; store and carry supplies and equipment.
  6. Ability to problem solve in a changing pharmacy environment.
  7. Ability to interact with existing pharmacy and unit based staff in a constructive and productive manner.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, to interact with a wide variety of individuals to successfully provide optimal patient care.
  9. Ability to obtain and maintain site clearance.
