VP, Health System Operations - Southeast

 

The VP, Health System Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing health system pharmacies with heavy focus on specialty pharmacy. This role involves strategic oversight of health system pharmacy operations, driving performance improvements, ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing patient care. The VP will work closely with executive leadership, clinical teams and pharmacy operations to expand pharmacy services, expand specialty pharmacy services, improve patient outcomes and ensure the financial sustainability of the health system pharmacy program. The VP assists the SVP Health System Operations ensuring the pharmacies provide optimal services, meet all legal and accreditation/certification requirements, and comply with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of Maxor National Pharmacy Services. The VP is fully responsible for client engagement and timely opening of new pharmacies.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and execute the overall strategy for pharmacy services within the health system. Align pharmacy goals with the broader health system objectives, ensuring the program supports both clinical outcomes and financial performance.
  2. Oversee the daily operations of pharmacy services, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance. Implement best practices in pharmacy operations to enhance service delivery, streamline workflows, and optimize resource utilization.
  3. Lead initiatives to improve patient care and outcomes in specialty pharmacy. Ensure that specialty pharmacy services are patient-centric, focusing on medication adherence, disease management, and personalized care.
  4. Identify and pursue growth opportunities within the pharmacy sector. This includes expanding service offerings, cultivate health system partnerships, and exploring new revenue streams to support the health system's financial goals.
  5. Ensure that all pharmacy operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards. Stay updated on regulatory changes and ensure timely implementation of necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
  6. Manage the financial performance of the pharmacy program, including budgeting, cost control, and revenue enhancement. Monitor key financial metrics and implement strategies to improve value to the health system.
  7. Lead continuous improvement efforts within pharmacy operations, focusing on quality, safety, and efficiency. Use data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  8. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and external partners, to enhance the integration of pharmacy services within the health system. Ensure alignment with clinical teams to support patient care.
  9. Oversee the implementation and optimization of technology solutions that support pharmacy operations. Leverage advanced pharmacy management systems, data analytics, and automation tools to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
  10. Lead and mentor the pharmacy management team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation. Ensure that the team is equipped with the skills and resources needed to meet the health system's goals.
  11. Conduct regular market analysis to understand industry trends, competitor strategies, and emerging opportunities in the health system pharmacy space. Use these insights to inform
  12. Conduct on-going evaluations of employee skills and performance.
  13. Ensure the implementation and maintenance of inventory control programs.
  14. Evaluate supervised employees by completing written performance appraisals annually.
  15. May temporarily lead the pharmacy in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager.
  16. Attend and participate in other programs, committees, meetings, and functions as required.
  17. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  18. Promptly report any allegations of impropriety to the Compliance Department.
  19. Comply with Maxor’s Ethical Business Conduct policy and Maxor’s Compliance Program.
  20. Remain free from exclusion under the OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists.
  21. Complete required training and ensure the departmental staff training is completed as required.
  22. Maintain regular attendance in accordance with established policies.
  23. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:   Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, Business Administration, Healthcare Management or related field; advanced degree (MBA or MHA) strongly preferred.

 

Experience: Extensive experience in pharmacy operations, with a significant focus on specialty pharmacy services. Proven track record in leadership roles within a health system.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  2. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities with strong problem-solving skills with a strategic and analytical mindset.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively, interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  4. Skill in the use of pharmacy management systems, data analytics and other relevant technologies.
  5. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  6. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  7. Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures
  8. Knowledge of Marketing and Sales Plan development.
  9. Leadership, coaching, and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
  10. Knowledge of specialty pharmacy practices, regulatory requirements, reimbursement strategies, accreditation and certification requirements.
  11. Ability to network and interact, as well as support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals.
